Dear Parents and Adults at Home,
We will be concluding our mathematics unit on measurement on Friday, February 1st. The final test will be on Monday, February 4th. All of the concepts covered in the Unit Review on pp. 232-233 will be on the test. Please see further details below. Any students having difficulty with any of the mathematical concepts are encouraged to seek help. I am available after school from 2:30-3:15 pm.
Week Three: Number the Stars by Lois Lowry. After we have finished the novel, the students will be choosing a number of post-novel activities. There are various activities listed for each level of thinking. Please visit theliterarylink.com/bloom_questions.html if you would like to see the activities.
Students are continuing to collect story ideas in their Writer's Journal.
In Social Studies, we completed a short unit investigating the culture of Japan. Mr. Doyle, our learning support teacher, talked to the class about his time in Japan. He lived there for 15 years.
In Science and Personal Planning, we are beginning a unit on health. The students will be selecting articles from the website, kidshealth.org, to summarize and present in a podcast format.

The Black Group will be reading and reporting on short, high-interest, non-fiction passages entitled, "Ask About."
