Forsyth Road Champion Basketball Players vs. Teachers; Square Dance Recital; Stories and Healthy Living Podcast Recordings Completed

Dear Parents and Adults at Home,

On Friday, March 14th at 1 pm, the grade six and seven students will present a square dance recital in our gym. Following the performance, the Forsyth Road Champion Basketball Players will play the teachers in a fun and entertaining game. Please join us.

Report cards were sent home today. After having taken a moment to read over your child's report card, I would encourage all parents to book a time to meet with me, either tomorrow, or at your earliest convenience. The phone number at the school is 604-588-8394. Also, a reminder that tomorrow we will dismiss at 1:30 pm.

Writing Circles: The students have completed their final drafts. They have all recorded their stories in podcast format. I will burn a copy of their podcast stories for each student by the end of the week.

Health Unit - Final Week: The students have been selecting articles from the website, kidshealth.org , to summarize and present in a podcast format. We have recorded two scripts on the themes of 'Dealing With Feelings' and 'Staying Healthy.' I will burn a copy of the Healthy Living podcasts for each student by the end of the week.

Exploring Extreme Environments, Sharing the Wealth, Writing Circles: Final Draft and Healthy Living Podcast Recording

Dear Parents and Adults at Home,

Our Healthy Living Cooking Week was a great success! The students were asked to reflect upon their own eating habits and the difference between whole food and processed food.
Lots of healthy recipes can be found on www.kidshealth.org. Follow the "Recipes" link.

Science: Exploring Extreme Environments - The students will learn how Canadian technologies help people explore the universe beyond our home planet.

Social Studies: Sharing the Wealth - Learning how to share the earth's resources is one of the big challenges facing the world today. Students will investigate the connections between poverty and population. They will also learn about the country of India and find out why some Canadians need to quit being so greedy!

Writing Circles: The students have completed their final drafts. They have begun recording their stories in podcast format.

Health Unit - Week Six: The students have been selecting articles from the website, kidshealth.org , to summarize and present in a podcast format. Our second podcast will focus on "Staying Healthy." We are currently recording the scripts into podcast format.

Once again we are offering workshops giving tips on reading with your child/ren. Last year, families that attended found the reading tips very helpful. Come on out... get to know new people, or bring another parent and learn together. The final presentation is entitled, "Discussion, sharing ideas, meet the Whalley librarian..." on Tuesday, March 11th.

These sessions will be from 1:00 to 2:30 pm in our school library. We will have child minding, refreshments, door prizes and more! What could be more important than giving your child the love of reading and a great start to success in school!

Website of the Week: Nature Trails of Surrey

Surrey, "the City of Parks", offers adventures of discovery in the most diverse and largest area of parks of any municipality in the Lower Mainland. Some of Surrey's trails are thousands of years old and were used as trade routes for Canada's first peoples for generations. There are trails that offer some of the best bird watching in North America, while others are green oases in the centre of urban life. Follow the links for park maps and start exploring!
